Release Date: 23.06.2003
Creation / noun creating,
being created; (usually the Creation)
Gods creating of the universe; (usually Creation)
all things; product of imaginative work.
This then the Oxford dictionary definition
of the word Creation! How handy is a pocket
sized book explaining words of a certain language
when starting such things as info sheets for
record labels? Its also a very powerful word,
as we know all -and everything- has been created
and evolved over time. Some say one man is representative
of all creation! All and everythingbelong to
him, and we are just but part players, and extra
in his master plan. Time for me to pull out
Pharaoh Sanders timeless album Karma, from 1969
and act on impulsion and a sudden desire. I
become fully aware as Leon Thomas and Pharaoh
Sanders perfectly enforce the assertion and
statement that Creation is not a word to be
taken lightly. Im relishing the thought of writing
about an album such titled.
Megablast - Creation
I realise on completion of listening to the
debut album from Sascha Weisz aka Megablast,
that he has in fact explained this definition
perfectly well also. In sonic terms, his musical
maiden voyage for Stereo Deluxe is aptly titled.
Whether it is the act of being something completely
new, or the differing styles of vibrations and
sound on offer from Sascha, then Creation is
exactly what it is. It is a product more of
imaginative musicianship and programming rather
then the influences or the following of something
or someone else. Maybe he will call his second
album Evolution? Creation is an album of new
tastes and combinations, accessible yet challenging
for the listener, and certainly justified to
be called as such. For sure, the music of Megablast
contains influences and ingredients of other
things; everything has influence as we all seek
direction from all around, we are human after
all! These though are the influences of life
and of his existence more then the directions
of other producers and musicians. This is satisfying
to say the least as I can inform you that Sascha
Weisz lives and breathes in Vienna! Creation
is not typically Viennese sounding and the making
of another downbeat or chilled production where
never in question. The music of Megablast is
created from his science, spirit, soul and imagination
alone, and not that of others. This is apparent
from the opening notes. In fact, he helps break
the mould of a myth, as for too long, Vienna
has been categorised as the city of downtempo,
the capital of chill out, the finest musical
laboratory for the art of European dub experiments.
Megablast, along with Stefan Moerth aka Stereotyp
(G Stone), have definitely brought to our attention,
brand new and very innovative sounds from the
city of Vienna. How nourishing that these two
adventurous and non conforming producers arrive
on the musical map to shake it up a little?
More relishing is the thought that both Megablast
and Stereotyp will encourage others and provide
freedom for them to be creative. Im hoping the
future sound makers of Vienna will not follow
them, but learn from them.
